Farmer's sweet success using Polysulphate fertilizer on tomato crop

9 lutego 2017

The film of the story of a tomato farmer’s success with Polysulphate is the latest addition to our Polysulphate video collection.

Seeking solution

Gabay Rachamim has been farming since the 1950’s, producing Ikram tomatoes from his 25 hectares of greenhouses in Israel. The farm is supplied with desalinated water, which is very low in calcium and magnesium. Previously these nutrients were supplied through multiple fertilizer applications each growing season.

Interested to find a cheaper, more effective alternative to this practice, Mr Rachamim took part in a field test conducted within the framework of the CFPN, Centre for Fertilization and Plant Nutrition to test Polysulphate fertilizer (the new polyhalite-based fertilizer from ICL Fertilizers) on a trial carried out on his farm.

Gaining and saving

The results were excellent. Compared with the multiple applications, a single application of Polysulphate before planting provided enough calcium and magnesium for the whole growing season. “Polysulphate saves on work time and materials – you only apply it once to the crop” says Gabay, “and time equals money, so applying Polysulphate increases my profit.”
